Volunteering Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question about volunteering please look below to see if the answer is already here.  If you can't find an answer please contact info@voluntarysupport.org.uk or 01932 571122 and we will do our best to help you.

Who can volunteer?

Anyone! You can volunteer whatever your age, job status or abilities.

How much of my time will it take up?

This is entirely up to you. Volunteering can take anything from a few hours to a few days a week. When deciding how often you would like to volunteer, think about how much time you could realistically commit.

Will it cost me anything?

Volunteering should not cost you anything. Most organisations will pay ‘out of pocket’ expenses including reasonable travel costs - you can check this before applying.

What do I do from here? I’m interested in volunteering

You can contact our Volunteer Officer using the contact us  page or view the latest opportunities.

I work full time but want to volunteer, how do I get involved?

If you can't get to Volunteer Centre you can register online and search for the opportunities you are interested in.

I’m interested but don’t know what type of volunteering to do?

If you visit one of our Volunteer Centres we will help you register and identify roles that would be suitable for you. We have a list of activities of interest you can pick from which will bring up a list of relevant opportunities. You can then browse to see which would suit you best.

What age do I have to be to volunteer?

There are no age restrictions for volunteering although for a large majority of the roles we cover you would need to be at least 16 years of age. If you are younger come in and chat to Noreen and Jenny about other options.

I want to volunteer but don’t want to work all week.

You don’t have to. When you apply for roles make sure you know in advance when you would like to/not like to work as this can be negotiated with the organisation. Most organisations do not expect you to work all week.

Please note that whilst every care has been taken to check the organisation to which you are applying has relevant Volunteer Policies in place, we would ask that you read their Volunteer Policy.
