Looking For Volunteers?
If you are looking for volunteers to support your organisation, our Volunteer Centres in Chertsey, Camberley and Staines are here to help!
We can advertise your volunteering vacancies at our centres or on our website. This is a free service to voluntary and community organisations in Surrey Heath, Spelthorne and Runnymede. Using our on-line database, Better Impact, visitors to our website can search and sign up for local volunteer opportunities. We can also help you outline volunteer roles and write role descriptions for display on Better Impact, that will help you recruit, motivate and retain suitable volunteers.
We can help you to write appropriate policies for volunteer recruitment if you do not have them in place. Your organisation should have the following policies and procedures before recruiting:
Equal opportunities policy
Health and safety policy
Public liability insurance
We will then publicise your opportunity on our website and use it to match volunteers to your specific requirements. When potential volunteers see your opportunity, they will contact us using the details you have given to discuss the position. If you wish, it is possible for you to manage your own Better Impact account.
Please note that organisations are responsible for their own recruitment, selection procedures and references for volunteers but we can help with DBS (formerly CRB) checks.
You are under no legal obligation to pay any expenses to volunteers. However, it is good practice to pay out of pocket expenses e.g. travel. We strongly recommend that organisations reimburse where they are able. Please note it is important for you as an organisation to only ever pay expenses that the volunteer has paid themselves, any money over this could have legal implications for yourself and the volunteer.
If you have, or would like to have volunteers at your organisation we at the Volunteer Centres of Staines, Chertsey and Camberley want to help you. We can promote your volunteering opportunities and support you and the individuals who want to volunteer. We can provide you with good practice support and training that involve volunteers and help to develop new volunteering opportunities. In the management of volunteers we can help you with volunteer inductions; volunteer training; support & supervision and motivation.

We recommend you have a volunteer policy which we can help you prepare if you don’t already have one. A volunteer policy is the foundation on which your organisation’s involvement of volunteers should be based. It forms the basis of your entire volunteer programme, giving cohesion and consistency to all the elements in your organisation that affect volunteers (recruitment, expenses, health and safety and so on). It is the key to involving a diversity of volunteers, because it helps to define the role of volunteers within the organisation, and how they can expect to be treated. Read our fact sheet on writing a volunteer policy and see examples of volunteering policies on the Volunteering England website.
On our website we advertise for volunteers for many of the organisations we support in North Surrey. Using our on-line database, Better Impact, visitors to our website can search and sign up for local volunteer opportunities. We can also help you outline volunteer roles and write role descriptions for display on Better Impact, that will help you recruit, motivate and retain suitable volunteers. Being clear about roles makes recruitment easier and means that potential volunteers understand the volunteering opportunity available. A straight-forward role description that sets out clearly the skills, experience and time commitment required means that organisations are more likely to attract volunteers with the most to contribute to each role.
