Challenge yourself this year

If you’re looking for the motivation to get fitter this year, or perhaps are looking for a new challenge to push you out of your comfort zone, then signing up to a charity challenge event while supporting a good cause is a great place to start.

Many local charities rely on the fundraising efforts of people who take part in their events. If there’s a cause you’re passionate, contact them to see how you can help them raise funds. Or take a look at some of the challenges coming up this year – there’s a wide range with something to suit everyone:

Running

Make 2023 the year you finally run that marathon! Places are available for the London Marathon through Eikon, White Lodge and Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice

If it suits you better, you can join 20000 runners and be part of the largest virtual marathon

Is a marathon a stretch too far? How about the Royal Parks Half Marathon for a scenic tour of some of London’s finest parks in October. Sport in Mind also have some places on the Reading Half Marathon in April.

Or you could run 10k for Bee-lieve Foundation, as part of the Woking Lions 10k Martian Race in June.

Cycling

If cycling is your thing, then sign up to do the Ride London-Essex 100 this May in aid of North West Surrey Samaritans

Or, if you fancy further afield, how about the London-Paris Tour de France Finale Challenge in aid of Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.

Or you could take on Transform Housing’s Easter 50 Challenge where you can walk, jog or run from their Windsor Racecourse basecamp through Windsor Great Park with its fantastic castle views and along the Thames Path.

Team events

Bee-lieve Foundation are running a football festival on 20th May for primary schools at Leatherhead Football Club with under 9 and under 11 teams.

And on 30th August they are holding a Charity Golf Day at Woking Golf Club. Play pairs golf on this 18 hole heathland course and enjoy a two-course meal afterwards.

Contact Bee-lieve for more details.

Challenge events

Have you always wanted to jump out of an aeroplane? Places on skydiving challenge events are being offered by Transform Housing, Bee-lieve Foundation or Eikon throughout the year.

Or, for something completely different, you could try ziplining in March or wing walking in June for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.
