Free and Funded Digital Tools & Tech for Charities

Digital and IT costs are core expenses for charities, yet they can often feel out of reach when it comes to fundraising. Fortunately, there’s a growing ecosystem of free, low-cost, and funded tech support available – if you know where to look.

Free or Low-Cost Tech Equipment

There are several UK-based initiatives offering refurbished or discounted computers and devices. Computers for Charities and ComputerAid offer low-cost options. IT for Charities also lists providers (not all free), and specialist support exists for disabled users via Computers For The Disabled and for refugees via Screen Share.

Grants and Funding for Tech Projects

Charities can access significant grant funding for digital inclusion. The Access Foundation provides £20k–£100k for tech that bridges the digital divide. Others like Fat Beehive Foundation and Comic Relief offer support for tech-based social change. Some funders, like Thomas Wall Trust and Clothworkers Foundation, also support core IT and digital training projects.

Free Software & Digital Tools

Microsoft and Google both offer free or discounted software for charities, including Microsoft 365, Dynamics, and G Suite. CRM tools like Red Cloud, website hosting from Kualo, and design platforms like Canva and Piktochart are free or heavily discounted.

Pro Bono & Volunteer Support

Platforms like Donate Code and Digital Candle connect charities with volunteer developers and digital experts for tailored help.

Online Learning & Toolkits

Free learning platforms like Google Digital Garage, Hub Spot Academy, and Accenture offer accessible digital upskilling. Digital support charity CAST can also help charities find the right tools, as well as providing a wealth of resources.

Developing your digital capability and offer is achievable – especially with the right knowledge and resources. We have put together a full list of funders and resources for you to use.
