Beaver Scout Team Leader

Can you help us find our next Beaver Scout Leader?

After 20 years volunteering with the Warspite Beaver Colony, and a decade leading the section, Linda Grant will be hanging up her woggle before the end of 2024. Linda has grown the Beaver section to the largest size this century, provided fun and excitement for generations of young people and supported Beavers to reach their potential.

As a fellow volunteer I have seen her dedication; and as a Dad, my daughter benefited massively from Beaver’s run by Linda. We are really grateful for all that she has given over two decades.

The hunt is now on for our new Beaver leadership team to help our brilliant Beavers build on the achievement of the last years.

We are looking to appoint either a Beaver Section Leader or a Beaver Section Leader Team, ideally by October Half Term to give Linda a well earned run in to Christmas.

We need your help to find our next Beaver Leader(s) - and there are some questions that those involved might be thinking?

• Do I need to be a present volunteer? No. You could be, or you could be new to us.

• Do I need to have been a Scout or Girl Guide?  No, we have brilliant leaders who have been and brilliant leaders who haven't. We think a sense of humour and a desire to help others.

•  Will I have to run it all on my own? No, we can work on a plan to run alongside experienced leaders both from the Beavers and other sections.

• Is there training? The Scout Association has a range of training available. Some, such as safeguarding and safety, is mandatory; whilst others can be tailored to your needs. There is also the potential for mentoring from existing volunteers in Warspite & elsewhere.

• Is Beavers always going to be at the same time? Our Beavers has been at 4.30 on a Tuesday for a long time, and our preference would be to continue with this time slot - but if there is a potential leadership team which could look at a different day or time, we would be open to that conversation.

• Is it forever? No. Linda has done an amazing job, but no-one should come into this expecting to do 20 years (although if you enjoy it…..).

Ideally we are looking for individuals who could expect to commit for 2 years.

What skills do I need?

We are looking for someone with a passion for coordinating our brilliant Beaver Scout team, who provide great activities for a great group of 6 to 8 year olds.
