Join a friendly team and support mental health in your community.
Spelthorne Mental Health Association is looking for part-time Charity Shop Volunteers to help run “Charity at Home”, the oldest charity shop in Ashford. The shop raises vital funds for a local mental health day centre and provides affordable goods to the community.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience in retail, meet new people, and make a difference. Tasks may include sorting donations, pricing items, arranging displays, using the till, and helping customers.

You can volunteer for half a day, a full day, or multiple days (Monday–Saturday, 10am–3pm) depending on your availability. The environment is friendly and informal, with flexible rotas based on volunteer availability — though Saturday support is especially appreciated.

What skills do I need?

Volunteers are required to be reliable, honest and have an ability to get on with people. No specific qualifications are required. Knowledge of pricing clothes and other goods would be a very desirable bonus - we have a visiting valuer for jewellery and small items but not for clothes etc.

Applicants should:

  • be in good general health and reasonably physically able, as the work requires a certain amount of lifting of bags of stock for sorting
  • have eyesight good enough to read price labels on stock
  • be able to deal with money, adding up amounts and giving change
  • have a pleasant but firm manner with customers
  • work co-operatively with other members of staff and accept the decisions of the senior member of staff in charge.
