Age UK Surrey is looking for friendly, compassionate volunteers to offer weekly 30-minute phone calls to older people who may be feeling isolated. These chats offer companionship and warmth, helping improve wellbeing from the comfort of both your homes. You’ll be matched with someone who shares your interests, and calls can be arranged at a time that suits you both.

This flexible role is perfect if you want to make a difference from home. All you need is a phone, good conversation skills, and the desire to brighten someone's week.

What skills do I need?

You should enjoy chatting on the phone and have patience, empathy, and good listening skills. An understanding of the challenges older people may face—such as memory loss, hearing impairments, or loneliness—is important. Being respectful and tolerant of different viewpoints is essential.
