Elmbridge Mencap (CSVA)
Our much-loved Cinema Night has been running for over 20 years and is a highlight of the month for many of our members.
Held on the third Saturday of each month, the session offers a relaxed and inclusive cinema experience, with films shown on a large projector screen and surround sound. There is a short interval with refreshments, and attendees can simply turn up—no booking required.
The session is volunteer-led and supported by an experienced lead volunteer, creating a warm and community-focused environment.
The Role
We are looking for friendly and reliable volunteers to help support and run Cinema Night.
This is a facilitation role, focused on creating a welcoming and enjoyable group environment rather than providing direct care.
· Setting up the room and equipment before the session
· Operating cinematic equipment e.g. projector as required (training will be given)
· Welcoming attendees and helping them settle in
· Supporting a friendly, inclusive atmosphere throughout
· Assisting with refreshments during the interval
· Helping tidy up and close down at the end of the evening
We’re looking for people who are:
· Friendly, patient and approachable
· Reliable and able to commit to a regular monthly session
· Comfortable working as part of a small volunteer team
· Happy to follow guidance and support a safe environment
· No previous experience is necessary—just a positive attitude.
What You’ll Gain
· Experience supporting people with learning disabilities or autism
· The opportunity to be part of a long-standing, valued community activity
· A welcoming and supportive volunteer environment
· The chance to make a real difference locally
