Looking Ahead (SH)
We offer weekly classes to both beginners and those who wish to refresh or improve their Braille skills.
In addition, we can offer some help with 'New Seeing Skills', to those people who develop age-related Macular Disease. We can also assist with indoor mobility and social interaction.
Opportunities exist at our class held in St John's Church, Windlesham on a Friday 10 - 12pm to help and support visually impaired adults of all ages to learn new skills such as touch typing and making the best use of tablets/laptops. smartphones.
This is a rewarding role, as acquiring these skills can be a huge benefit to someone who has either lost their sight or has developed sight problems. In some instances it helps people to prepare for employment or take on voluntary roles in the wider community.
These is also the opportunity to learn Braille as a sighted person and progress to supporting a Braille learner yourself.
Volunteers should be able to easily communicate with a wide range of people.
Have an interest in all areas of IT, or willing to learn, and have an interest in different methods of communication.
Possess patience and perseverance as learners all progress at very different rates.
Have a friendly and positive attitude to others.
