Surrey Poet Laureateship CIC
Support the Farnham Poetry Hub as Assistant Facilitator. Help with event setup, attendance, and participant engagement to ensure a welcoming, inspiring space for poets and the community to share and grow.
What will you be doing?
As Assistant Facilitator for the Farnham Poetry Hub, you’ll work closely with the Lead Facilitator to help deliver friendly, inclusive, and creatively enriching poetry sessions for the local community.
This monthly hub is part of the Surrey Poet Laureateship’s flagship programme—designed to bring poets, writers, and curious newcomers together in welcoming spaces to share work, build confidence, and celebrate expression.
Your role will be to support the smooth running of the sessions and ensure participants feel welcomed and involved. You don’t need to be a poetry expert—just someone who’s organised, approachable, and passionate about community arts.
Key responsibilities include:
Assisting with event setup, sign-in, and welcoming attendees
Supporting the Lead Facilitator with timekeeping and flow of the session
Engaging participants in a warm and encouraging way
Helping manage resources, attendance tracking, or tech (if applicable)
Supporting communications, follow-up, or feedback after sessions
Standing in if the Lead Facilitator is occasionally unavailable
This is a supportive, grassroots role that helps nurture Farnham’s local creative community and ensures the Hub remains a cornerstone of poetry in Surrey.
What difference will you make?
As Assistant Facilitator, you'll play a key role in making the Farnham Poetry Hub a consistent, welcoming, and inspiring space for local voices to be heard.
Your support ensures that each session runs smoothly and that every participant—whether a first-time poet or experienced writer—feels confident, respected, and included. By helping to maintain the energy and structure of the Hub, you’ll directly contribute to its growth and sustainability.
You’ll also be strengthening the wider mission of the Surrey Poet Laureateship: bringing poetry into the heart of our communities, one gathering at a time.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone friendly, reliable, and enthusiastic about helping others express themselves through poetry. You don’t need to be a poet—just someone who enjoys being part of a creative community and supporting others.
Essential skills and qualities:
Warm, welcoming personality with strong people skills
Reliable and able to commit to regular monthly sessions
Organised and comfortable helping run events
A team player who can support and take initiative when needed
Interested in poetry, creative writing, or community engagement
Desirable (but not required):
Experience working with community groups, arts events, or workshops
Confidence in small group settings or informal facilitation
Local knowledge of Farnham or its creative scene
You must be able to reliably attend weekly sessions at the Farnham Hub.
We warmly welcome applicants from all backgrounds—especially those who want to help make poetry more accessible, social, and meaningful in their community.
