CHEER (CSVA)
Demand for our services is growing as more older people experience loneliness, financial hardship and reduced access to local support. At the same time, the external funding environment is becoming more competitive and uncertain.
We have a clear plan for 2026/27 focused on stabilising and strengthening the organisation - building financial resilience through diversification and sustainability, embedding strong systems and governance, and ensuring we can continue to deliver safe, high-quality services.
As a Trustee with fundraising expertise, you will play a key role in shaping this next phase.
You’ll be joining a committed and collaborative Board and team, where your insight will have real impact - helping to secure the resources needed to support older people in Elmbridge to live connected, independent and fulfilling lives.
About the role
We are seeking a new Trustee with fundraising expertise to join our Board and support CHEER’s next phase of development.
This role will help strengthen financial resilience and diversify income, ensuring CHEER can continue to meet growing demand and deliver vital services.
As a trustee, you will share collective responsibility for the governance and strategic direction of the charity, while bringing a particular focus on income generation and sustainability.
Role responsibilities
All trustees contribute to the overall governance of CHEER, including setting strategic direction, ensuring compliance, monitoring performance and risk, and safeguarding the charity’s reputation.
In addition, this role will provide particular support in relation to fundraising and sustainability. This includes:
•Supporting the development of a more diverse and sustainable income base across grants, donations, corporate support and events
•Contributing to the development and oversight of a clear funding pipeline and income targets
•Advising on funding opportunities, partnerships and supporter engagement
•Providing input into legacy and reserves planning to support long-term sustainability
•Supporting a realistic and resilient funding approach
•Encouraging alignment between fundraising, finance and service delivery plans
•Promoting a culture of income awareness and sustainability across the organisation
All trustees are expected to uphold the Nolan Principles of Public Life.
Who we’re looking for
We are particularly interested in individuals with:
•Experience in fundraising, income generation or business development
•Understanding of charity funding (grants, trusts, statutory, corporate or individual giving)
•Strategic thinking and the ability to translate plans into delivery
•An interest in supporting older people and local communities
You do not need prior trustee experience - support and induction will be provided.
