Help Us Help Families – Fundraising Volunteer Needed at Home-Start Surrey Heath

Are you organised, motivated, and passionate about supporting families? Join Home-Start Surrey Heath as a Fundraising Volunteer and play a crucial role in helping us secure the funding we need to continue providing vital services to local families with young children.

Home-Start Surrey Heath is part of a network of Home-Start schemes across Surrey, working in partnership to provide home-visiting support to families under stress. This is a rewarding volunteer role that will allow you to make a real difference behind the scenes, helping generate income from grant-making bodies, statutory agencies, and charitable trusts.

This role is flexible and can be carried out on a part-time basis, largely from home with occasional in-person meetings. You’ll be working closely with the Scheme Manager and the Board of Trustees.

What you’ll do:

  • Compile and maintain a portfolio of existing and potential funders and donors

  • Research funding opportunities, including eligibility criteria and application deadlines

  • Plan, complete and submit compelling grant applications and funding bids

  • Support the organisation with tenders and funding contracts

  • Build and maintain relationships with funders, including statutory bodies and charitable foundations

  • Develop and help deliver a long-term fundraising strategy

  • Keep accurate records of all applications, outcomes and correspondence (both digital and paper-based)

  • Report outcomes and funding progress to the scheme manager and trustees

  • Liaise with the fundraising committee and promote/support community fundraising events

You’ll help ensure we have the resources we need to deliver life-changing services to families when they need it most.

What skills do I need?

This role would suit someone with some experience in fundraising or bid writing, though full support will be available. It’s ideal for someone who is self-motivated, detail-oriented and interested in the charity sector.

You’ll develop or make use of:

  • Strong written communication and persuasive writing for applications and proposals

  • Research and analytical skills – identifying suitable grants and tracking application cycles

  • Planning and organisation – keeping track of multiple bids and deadlines

  • Relationship building – communicating with funders and supporters

  • Teamwork – collaborating with the Scheme Manager, Trustees, and fundraising committee

  • Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding policies

  • Flexibility – ability to work independently and manage your own time
