We are looking for volunteers to help with our weekly Thursday Afternoon Group (TAG) providing activities for adults with a learning disability. We started in February 2023. Our group is led by an experienced facilitator, and each week we enjoy sharing our news, playing boccia, doing quizzes and arts/crafts activities and much much more. TAG was set up because a previous statutory funded group did not recommence after COVID and some of our members have struggled with the loss of routine as a result.

Our members make their way independently to the group and may be accompanied by a support worker where appropriate. As a volunteer you would be expected to join in all of the activity and help with making tea/coffee. It is an ideal opportunity for someone with a creative side or crafty skill as we are always looking for different projects to try.

What skills do I need?

No specific experience is required but a sense of humour, empathy, patience is a must. We would love to hear from people who may have some makaton signing skills, but this is not essential, just a willingness to get involved in conversation/activities and have fun!

TAG meets between 1 – 4pm each Thursday. Some of our members do meet in the church earlier than this for the breakfast club, which is run by ALDAG in the church, and then have lunch together before the group. Volunteers would be very welcome to attend this as well, but the specific need is between 1-4pm when we run the activities.
