Support the weekly Guildford Poetry Hub sessions as Assistant Facilitator. Help welcome attendees, assist the lead, and ensure each session runs smoothly—fostering a vibrant, inclusive space for poets and the wider community.

What will you be doing?

As Assistant Facilitator for the Guildford Poetry Hub, you’ll play a hands-on role in delivering weekly poetry sessions that bring together local writers, performers, and community members in a welcoming, supportive environment.

Working alongside the Lead Facilitator, you’ll help ensure each session runs smoothly—managing logistics, greeting participants, and helping create a consistent, inclusive space for creativity. Whether supporting discussions, managing materials, or simply being a reassuring presence in the room, your contribution will make a real difference to the hub’s success.

Key responsibilities include:

Assisting with room setup, registration, and greeting attendees

Supporting the Lead Facilitator with session structure and timekeeping

Encouraging participation and helping new attendees feel welcome

Managing attendance tracking and minor logistics

Assisting with communications and follow-up when needed

Stepping in or co-leading occasionally if the Lead is unavailable

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people and wants to support the arts in a practical, community-based role.

What difference will you make?

By supporting the weekly Guildford Poetry Hub, you'll help create a space where creativity, confidence, and community flourish. Your presence will make it easier for participants—especially newcomers or those sharing for the first time—to feel welcomed and supported.

You’ll be key in ensuring the Hub runs smoothly week after week, building trust, momentum, and continuity in one of the Laureateship’s most visible local programmes. Your behind-the-scenes support helps keep the focus on what matters: connection through poetry.

In doing so, you’ll be helping shape Guildford’s creative landscape and strengthening the Laureateship’s role as a cultural hub for all.

What skills do I need?

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for a dependable, people-friendly individual who enjoys supporting others and contributing to a welcoming, creative environment. You don’t need to be a performer or poetry expert—just someone who’s happy to help make weekly sessions run smoothly.

Essential skills and qualities:

Friendly, approachable, and confident working with people

Reliable and able to commit to regular weekly sessions in Guildford

Organised and calm under pressure

Comfortable assisting with room setup, logistics, and basic admin

A supportive team player with a genuine interest in community arts

Desirable (but not required):

Experience in event support, community groups, or workshop settings

Familiarity with Guildford or its local creative community

Interest in poetry, writing, or spoken word

You must be able to attend in-person sessions in Guildford every week (details to be provided) and ideally be open to occasional planning or coordination meetings.

We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds who believe in the power of poetry to connect and inspire—and who want to help make that happen at the grassroots level.
