Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey
Our volunteers are an essential part of our organisation, enabling us to provide a wide breadth of services to our service users.
By helping the Hearing Loss team as a volunteer you can develop your communication and interpersonal skills. You will make a vital difference to the people you help by reducing their sense of loneliness and social isolation.
Sight for Surrey is committed to developing and supporting our volunteers; our volunteering staff team will keep in regular contact with you and ensure you have induction training, around safeguarding and boundaries and who to contact if you have any concerns.
Sight for Surrey will pay expenses should you incur costs for your volunteering calls and travel expenses to attend training (45p per mile).
You may be asked from time to time if you are able to support other volunteer roles including one to one support with vulnerable adults. Please be aware that volunteers are required to have an enhanced check via the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), and join the DBS Update Service to ensure that regular checks can be undertaken during your volunteering service. Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey would apply for this on your behalf at no cost to yourself.
We are looking for people across Surrey to visit service users in their own homes to assist with technical/practical issues concerning various equipment such as telephones, TV aids and doorbells, (some in house training will be given).
You will be analytical, practical, confident with equipment and happy to troubleshoot common problems’ and have empathy with people who are Deaf, deafened or hard of hearing and occasionally combined sight and hearing loss.
Please note work which requires a Part P registered electrician (i.e. one that is on the Electrical Safety Register and who is an ELECSA, NICEIC or NAPIT member) should not be undertaken.
Please check with your point of contact before carrying out any unscheduled work.

This role would suit someone wanting to volunteer on an ad hoc basis as the needs of our clients can fluctuate. In order to ensure a member of staff is available in case of a safeguarding concern, we ask that visits take place Mon-Fri between 9-5.
