Volunteer Befriender (SH)

Could you spare a little time to brighten someone’s day?

At Surrey Heath Age Concern we are looking for kind and caring people to join our wonderful team of Volunteer Befrienders.

Just one hour of your time can make a big difference to someone who is feeling isolated or lonely.

Surrey Heath Age Concern is an independent charity in Surrey Heath.  Our mission is to replace loneliness and isolation with happiness and laughter. We are looking for committed people who would be willing to give a little free time each week to visit an older person in their own home or to go out on short outings. 

What skills do I need?

Provide a listening ear and a bit of company to someone who may not have many friends or family living close by.  You might sit and chat, read or enjoy past times with your befriendee.   

Be able to provide regular weekly hour visits with flexibility around holidays.

Have awareness of and empathy with issues facing older people.

Have good communication skills and the ability to listen effectively.  The ability to maintain confidentiality is essential.
