Once a month, could you offer a child or young person up to 18 years old, fun activities and one-to-one time?
Surrey Independent Visitor Service needs adult volunteers aged over 21 to visit and befriend children in care who are living in Surrey, or beyond.
What you will gain from this role:

What we need for this role:
- One visit per month, usually at the weekend
- A commitment of at least two years once matched with a child
- Your energy and time to a young person
- Your participation in independent visitor support groups and training
- Your agreement to an enhanced criminal record check (DBS), personal references and other relevant checks.

To become an Independent Visitor you will need to complete our recruitment process which includes, attending a virtual Open Evening, and then two full days of training in Surrey.
But we need to recruit volunteers all over Surrey, and in the surrounding areas, so please don't let the training location put you off if it isn't local to you. We aim to run two recruitment cycles per year, so please get in touch for dates.
What skills do I need?
- No formal qualifications or experience required
- Ability to visit a child once a month
- Enjoy spending time with children and young people, and value each child and young person as an individual
- Be honest and reliable
- Be able to give a minimum commitment of 2 years
- Willingness to undertake training, and have an Enhanced DBS check and personal and employment references undertaken
- Aged over 21
- Be able to organise fun trips and visit with a child
- Be able to complete basic IT tasks such as sending and receiving email, completing and sending online forms, and attending virtual meetings.
