The Kitchen Aid Volunteer at the community centre plays a key role in supporting the preparation and serving of meals for community members. They assist in the kitchen with tasks such as chopping, sorting ingredients, washing dishes, and ensuring that the space remains tidy and organised. The volunteer works closely with the chef to ensure smooth operations and helps with food safety practices, including cleaning and sanitising surfaces. A friendly, approachable attitude is essential as they also interact with visitors and assist with any special dietary requirements or requests.

What skills do I need?

Basic Cooking Skills – A basic understanding of food preparation techniques like chopping, peeling, and portioning is helpful, though not always required if training is provided.

Organisation – The ability to keep the kitchen tidy and organised, managing multiple tasks efficiently and ensuring that ingredients and tools are easily accessible.

Attention to Detail – Ensuring that food is prepared correctly and safely, with a particular focus on hygiene and follow instructions accurately.

Teamwork – Ability to work well with others, including kitchen staff, other volunteers, and community members. This ensures smooth kitchen operations and effective meal preparation.

Communication Skills – Clear and friendly communication is important, particularly when interacting with visitors or team members regarding food preferences or dietary requirements.

Adaptability – Being flexible and willing to assist in various tasks, from food prep to cleaning, depending on the day’s needs.

Time Management – The ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively to ensure meals are ready on schedule.

Health and Safety Awareness – Basic knowledge of food safety practices, such as proper food storage, handling, and hygiene, is crucial to ensure that meals are prepared in a safe environment.

Please note: This training will be provided.

Positive Attitude – A friendly, approachable, and helpful attitude to contribute to a welcoming atmosphere for everyone at the community centre.
