Citizens Advice Surrey Heath is an independent local charity, licensed to the National Association of Citizens Advice. We provide free, impartial, confidential advice and information to help people find a solution to the problems they face, whoever they are and whatever the problem. Our service is largely delivered by a dedicated and highly trained team of volunteers but we also have paid specialists in debt advice, welfare benefits, social prescribing and crisis support.

We are currently looking for a Media Volunteer to build our public profile and improve our communications for the purpose of raising awareness of our services, attracting volunteers, encouraging financial support and sharing information on our impact.

What will you do?

  • Complete an introduction to Citizens Advice
  • Promote the local Citizens Advice service so that the people understand what Citizens Advice does and how they can get advice, and how they could become a volunteer
  • Create leaflets and posters to promote the service, or use existing materials
  • Manage our social media, for example, Facebook, LinkedIn and ‘X’ to raise the profile of the local Citizens Advice
  • Help to share what local Citizens Advice does with your local press or radio station
  • Write information for the local Citizens Advice website or newsletter
  • Talk to clients or volunteers about their experiences
  • Help arrange a talk or event to promote the local Citizens Advice to others

What skills do I need?

You don’t need specific qualifications but you’ll need to:

● Have a good understanding of social media

● Be friendly and approachable

● Be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own

● Have excellent verbal and written communication skills

● Have good IT skills

● Be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection

● Be willing to undertake training in your role
