FATN Talking News
Each week we duplicate over 100 USB memory sticks containing our weekly recordings of local news, and dispatch them in pouches by post to our visually impaired listeners, for whom we provide free simple playback machines.
We use computers with specially written software to keep track of the approximately 600 USB memory sticks which cycle between us and our listeners.
There are a number of roles in this department, including computer operation, duplicating the memory sticks, sorting and packing the postal wallets with the memory sticks, and maintaining contact with our listeners.
We work three shifts during the week – these are Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9.00 for about one hour, and Friday afternoons from 13.00, also for one hour.
Rostering is flexible, and swaps can be arranged as
needed.
Our studio is in Farnham, just off West Street at the Coxbridge end, and
opposite the cemetery. There is plenty of free parking. Please note that there is a high step into
our studio which may prove tricky for a volunteer with a physical disability.
Skills
We have a number of volunteers in this department, who each bring their own skills to the job. If you are enthusiastic, methodical, and enjoy working in a small and very happy team then this may be just what you want.
All aspects of the role will be covered by on-the-job training as needed, so come and learn a new skill, and use it in a really worthwhile way.
