About the Library of Things

The Library of Things (LoT) is a community-led initiative that allows people to borrow useful items instead of buying them—helping to reduce waste, promote sustainability, and make everyday life more affordable. The project is run entirely by volunteers and relies on community support.

We are looking for a Quartermaster (Inventory & Maintenance Volunteer) to ensure that all items in the library are well-organised, properly maintained, and ready for borrowing. If you enjoy keeping things in order, have a knack for fixing or managing equipment, and want to contribute to a valuable community project, this is the role for you!

Role Overview

As Quartermaster, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining the Library of Things' inventory. You’ll ensure that items are stored correctly, checked for damage, and repaired or replaced as needed. You’ll also work closely with the Librarian (Booking & Lending Volunteer) to keep track of which items are in use and ensure everything remains in good working order.

This role is ideal for someone who is organised, practical, and enjoys working behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

· Keep an up-to-date inventory of all items available for borrowing.

· Ensure all items are stored properly and easily accessible.

· Check items for damage upon return and arrange for repairs or replacements as needed.

· Work with the Booking & Lending Volunteer to track which items are on loan.

· Monitor stock levels and suggest new items for the library based on demand.

· Inform the Website Volunteer of any changes to the inventory so the online system remains up to date.

· Maintain a clean and organised storage space.

What’s in it for You?

· Be part of a meaningful community project that promotes sharing and sustainability.

· Use your organisational or DIY skills to make a tangible impact.

· Gain valuable experience in inventory management and community-led initiatives.

· Meet like-minded people and help create a resource that benefits everyone.

What skills do I need?

Skills & Experience (Desirable but Not Essential)

No formal qualifications are required, but the following skills would be helpful:

· Good organisational skills and attention to detail.

· An interest in fixing or maintaining items (e.g., basic DIY or repair skills).

· Ability to keep records and track inventory effectively.

· Enthusiasm for sustainability and community sharing initiatives.

If you enjoy keeping things organised and well-maintained, we’d love to hear from you!
