Your Sanctuary
We are looking for volunteers to join our new Resettlement Volunteer Service, working alongside our experienced Refuge Support Team. Acting as a supporter for survivors, you will meet with them on a regular basis whilst they are still in our refuge and then during their first six weeks of living within the community. Providing emotional and practical support, you will help with creating exit plans, identifying local services and establishing links.
This is not suitable for volunteers looking for a short-term opportunity but there is flexibility on when the volunteering can take place. Support and training will be provided by our Refuge Coordinator but we do ask that you are willing to gain knowledge about issues relating to domestic abuse. A driving licence and car to enable you to travel across North-West Surrey would be useful. You will be asked to attend two induction evenings and will meet with the Refuge Service Lead and Coordinator before being accepted on the programme.
You will need to be calm, non-judgemental, have strong communication skills and the ability to maintain professional boundaries. A driving licence and car to enable you to travel across North-West Surrey would be useful.
