Repair, Mend and DIY Experts for Repair Café

Do you want to make a difference by helping people to reduce household expenses and environmental damage as part of an international movement? Then come and join Banstead Repair Café to make repairs local for all those in and around the area. We are happy to work with interested people on timing and commitment level etc.

The Repair Café uses community skills to help people repair and reuse their stuff, without charge, to reduce household costs and reduce waste. Benefits of the movement include :

  • Reducing the environmental impact of waste and recycling
  • Reducing cost of living by making products last longer
  • Bringing back repair into local society
  • Maintaining and spreading repair expertise
  • Promoting social cohesion in the community by connecting people

Banstead Repair Café opened in May 2024 and operates as a service provided by Age Concern Banstead, a registered charity. We currently hold monthly repair sessions on the first Saturday of the month. We are looking for repairers & menders to join our Repair Café and would love you to come and share your skills and expertise in our project. If there is something that you are good at fixing, we can match you with great opportunities to share your knowledge and passion with café visitors, and perhaps with fellow volunteers.

Repair Café take on fixing almost every type of household item including;

  • electrical
  • electronic
  • tools & mechanical
  • bikes
  • clothing & textiles
  • jewellery
  • toys & wooden items

We operate a booking system which helps volunteers prepare for their work. Our small but well organised workshop does provide some tools but most repairers may want to bring some tools with them.

What skills do I need?

  • Ability to fix / mend stuff that is damaged or broken.
  • Willingness to engage visitors in the repair process.
