Volunteer craftsperson (CSVA)

This is a great chance to support our staff to work with small groups of young people in our Godalming workshops/woodland, one day a week during school term times to pass on practical skills in wood, craft and metal work and achieve in a low pressure, nurturing environment.

Volunteers will help in our aim to motivate and build confidence in teenagers by teaching them practical craft skills allied to trades and nurture their personal potential, sometimes for the first time.

What skills do I need?

• Enjoy working and building relationships with young people.
• Be enthusiastic and have loads of patience, listen without judgement.
• Be prepared to break down barriers by conversation and being receptive to young people's points of view.
• Be of a practical nature, possibly with a broad scope of skills, but no need for qualifications, as we teach elementary skills.
• An empathy with young people who struggle with academic education.
• Open minded to the young people's barriers to learning.
• Acceptance that everybody learns differently, be able to work alongside them and resist imposing your own standards.
