Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum (SMEF) (VSNS)
'Speaking For Ourselves' is a peer research project with and by ethnic minority communities in Surrey. The project explores the intersections of identity, faith, health, and wellbeing to amplify hidden voices, inform current models of community engagement, and reframe local public sector narratives about ethnic minority lives. Through this project, we aim at understanding what health and wellbeing mean to ethnic minority groups in Surrey and how it could be improved.
We have just started the recruitment process, and we are looking for volunteer peer researchers from the different minority ethnic groups in Surrey to take part and make a change in their communities. We are trying to be as inclusive as possible and we welcome people from all different ethnic backgrounds, people with disabilities, refugees etc.
No prior experience is required as there will be a FREE training provided by the University of Surrey, which will upskill them to take part in the project, and which will look great on their CVs too. Also, our volunteer peer researchers will be reimbursed for their travel costs to conduct interviews etc. and there will be several 10£ vouchers given for the hours of work they do.
