An Independent Visitor (IV) is a volunteer who is matched with a young person in care, in order to build a supportive relationship. It is a befriending role, with emphasis placed on a supportive adult who is 'independent' from children's services and 'not paid to be there'. Our young people have asked for an IV to do monthly visits with them, these visits last between 2- 4 hours and can happen whenever they are both free. The visits will be an activity chosen by the young person and IV, examples being; football in the park; hot chocolate at a café; a visit to an animal sanctuary.
As an independent visitor, you will meet the young person at their home address and travel within the community.
