Participate in appropriate training as required by the Trust. Promote a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Offer a smile to everyone and engage in friendly and appropriate conversation with those who would like to talk. Act with respect and sensitivity at all times - respecting patient confidentiality at all times. Refer individuals to the appropriate staff member when necessary. Engage in any other appropriate activity under the guidance and support of a member of staff.

What you will be doing:

  • Assisting with simple questions
  • Making drinks for patients and replenishing patient water
  • Assisting at meal times
  • Cleaning and/or making beds
  • Stocking up trolleys/cupboards
  • Transport patient via wheelchair e.g. to x-ray
  • Reading to patient
  • Talking to patient.

These are just an example of some of the tasks you may be asked to assist with. This list is not exhaustive and you may be asked to help in other areas of the hospital due to operational demand.

What skills do I need?

Person Specification:

  • Experience in assisting the public
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, honest and punctual
  • Well presented (uniform polo shirt will be provided)
  • Approachable demeanour.

The skills you need:

  • Approachable and friendly
  • Empathy and understanding
  • Remaining calm when under pressure.
