Dementia Activities Group (SH)
We need friendly people with a positive attitude to dementia to help at our bi-weekly meetings on Tuesdays at the Mytchett centre at 1pm-2:30pm. Volunteers would ideally be there 10/15 minutes earlier to help with set up and get a brief. Some lifting of tables and chairs would be involved ideally.
Volunteers would help with welcoming people and making refreshments, would chat with both carers and the people with dementia. There are a number of fun and dynamic activities to join with where you would support people and give them a chance to relax. The aim is to inspire and encourage people in these sessions. Volunteers are welcome to lead activities in art, drama, singing etc if they would like.
Professionals from the mental health services will be present to offer advice to carers so no technical knowledge is required.
Positive attitude. Be sociable.
Friendly empathetic nature with a smile!
Knowledge of caring for or working with a person with dementia useful but not essential.
