Befriender

Our volunteers are an essential part of our organisation, enabling us to provide a wide breadth of services to our service users. By becoming a befriender, you can develop your communication and interpersonal skills. You will make a vital difference to the people you contact by reducing their sense of loneliness and social isolation.

We are looking for individual who are friendly, patient and have strong listening skills. Wherever possible you will be matched with a client who shares similar interests.

What skills do I need?

• Flexibility, reliability and the ability to work on your own.
• Friendly, helpful and understanding.
• Good communication and listening skills.
• Patience and empathy with people with visual impairment or hearing loss and occasionally with combined hearing loss.
• To be able to travel to and from the person's home.
• To be able to pass on useful and supportive information to the person and liaise between the person and Sight for Surrey.
• This role is based in clients' homes. We will match you with a client in your local area and, where possible, sharing similar interests.
