Voluntary Action Reigate & Banstead (VARB) provides advice and practical support, including volunteer recruitment advice, to smaller voluntary, community & faith organisations in the Borough of Reigate & Banstead. We are currently recruiting new trustees to join our board and bring new skills, experience, and diversity. The main responsibilities of a VARB Trustee are as follows:

  • To ensure that VARB complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
  • To ensure VARB uses its resources in line with the aims set out in its governing document.
  • To contribute actively through the board of trustees to give strategic direction to the organisation, set targets and evaluate performance.
  • To ensure the financial stability of VARB To appoint the senior manager and monitor his/her performance.

What skills do I need?

VARB welcomes trustees from a range of different backgrounds. We particularly welcome people who have had previous involvement in the voluntary sector, either as an employee or volunteer or as a user of voluntary sector services, but this is not essential.

Due to the current make-up of the Board, VARB would be particularly interested in hearing from any of the following:

  • People with knowledge of digital services e.g. a good understanding of how web-based technology and social media can be used to develop the delivery of VARB services.
  • People with experience of Human Resources issues to assist with the policies and process of managing a flexible team of staff and volunteers.
  • Younger people (under 40 years) to bring a younger perspective across a range of issues considered by the board.
  • Experience of organisational mergers.
