Tamzin has been volunteering at Families Thriving Together for six months. Aged just 15 years, she began her volunteering journey with Brownies in Shepperton, where she has been volunteering for three years, helping to organise activities and trips weekly.
Since joining Families Thriving Together, she has helped with fundraising and Christmas events, including at her local garden centre, helped run the tombola stall, and chatted to local people, spreading the word about the charity. There is always an adult on hand for support if needed.
Tamzin told us, “I just like helping people, and knowing that people are being helped by me. I like to bring new ideas.
“If there is any young person considering volunteering, I would say definitely do it, it’s such a fun time. You will get a lot of new experiences and it will help with your future.”
Michelle Tucker, CEO of Families Thriving Together, is delighted to support young people to build their confidence and contribute towards their CVs and future aspirations. She explained, “There are certain people like Tamzin that want to help with community support and that shines through. Young volunteers bring energy, fun, enthusiasm and honesty.”
Families Thriving Together provides fully funded parenting support to anyone parenting and their aim is to normalise parenting support for everyone.
