Volunteer with Scouts
Make a difference. Have fun. Give as much time as works for you.
You don't need to have been a Scout before. You don't need to be an expert. And you don't need to be available every week.
Scouts helps young people develop skills for life through adventure, friendship, teamwork and new experiences. Behind every great Scout experience is a team of volunteers making it happen - and there are lots of different ways to get involved.
Everyone is welcome
At Scouts, we celebrate difference and welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, identities and abilities. Whatever your experience, interests or availability, there could be a role that suits you.
You might enjoy:
Volunteer your way
Modern Scouting is built around teams, so volunteering can fit around work, family and other commitments. Some volunteers help regularly, while others lend a hand occasionally, support a particular event or share a skill for just one evening.
An hour can make a difference.
You could help young people cook outdoors, learn first aid, try a new sport, get creative, explore nature, develop confidence or experience their first night away from home.
What's in it for you?
Prefer to help behind the scenes?
That's just as important. Scout Groups also need people who can help
with:
You can make a huge difference without running a weekly meeting.
Flexible volunteering
Morning, afternoon or evening. Weekdays or weekends. Regularly or occasionally.
We'll help you find an opportunity that works around the time you have available.
Support for volunteers
Depending on your role, Scouts provides:
Some roles involving young people require appropriate safeguarding checks. Adult volunteer roles are generally available from age 18, with Young Leader opportunities available for young people aged 14-17.
Ready to find out more?
You don't have to know exactly what role you want.
Tell us a little about yourself, what interests you and how much time you
might have. We can help you find a way to get involved that works for you.
Join the team. Share your skills. Help young people gain skills for life.
What skills do I need?
There isn't one type of Scout volunteer. We need people with different personalities, experiences and skills. You might be great at crafts, cooking, DIY, sport, technology, photography, organising events or simply encouraging young people to have a go.
Perhaps your strengths are administration, finance, communications, fundraising, leadership or organisation. Or perhaps you simply have enthusiasm and would like to help.
We'll provide the learning, resources and support you need for your role.
Interested in working with young people?
Our volunteers help young people to:
You could support young people across different age groups, either regularly or as part of a wider volunteer team.
