Weybridge Land Charity (CSVA)
The Weybridge Land Charity The WLC was established in 1910 with the prime object of “relief of persons in the Weybridge area who are in need, hardship or distress”.
This relief is provided in the form of grants to those in need in the KT13 postcode A major contributor to the grant fund is generated by rents from the Weybridge Allotments which are owned by the charity.
Funds are also provided by returns from other investments.
New trustees will be individuals with a passion and commitment to help those in need in our local area, have the drive to take us forward and the experience to help create and shape the Charity’s strategy. Who we are looking for?
In order to enhance the experience and knowledge of the current board we are particularly looking for candidates in one or more of the following areas:
1. Background in working in a support/advisory capacity with individuals and families coping with hardship or distress demonstrating strong empathy for the challenges faced coupled with a desire to make positive changes
2. Practical knowledge and experience of land asset management particularly in relation to horticulture, water resource planning and ground and boundary maintenance
Additional Skills and Experience (desired but not essential)
• Strong networking capabilities and existing networks that can be utilised to the benefit of the charity
• Knowledge of or experience in risk management , compliance and safeguarding
• Philanthropy and fundraising
• Strategy development and change management
• Experience of charity governance and working with or as part of a Board of Trustees
• Strong administration and organisational skills
Commitment
• Other tasks and duties relevant to the Trustee’s area of specialism
Background: The Weybridge Charity was established in 1910 when the Churchfields allotments were established. The Charity owns the land and rents plots to tenants. Additionally, the Charity has an Investment Portfolio under professional management which generates annual income to further Charity Objects
Required Experience:
Experience in making a difference in the community is essential. Previous experience as a Trustee would be beneficial but not essential
Required Skills:
A successful Trustee has good written and verbal communication skills and has an established ability to assess and establish priorities. By the nature of the Charity’s work Trustees must have sound commercial and financial awareness along with good organisational skills.
Working Style:
The Charity values Trustees who are able to demonstrate a naturally collaborative style which readily engages with positively and enthusiastically engages with others. Collaboration with other Trustees is vital. Trustees must be able to represent the Charity to various sectors of the community.
