As a trustee for VASE, you will be responsible for overall governance and:

  1. Ensuring that VASE complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation and/or regulations;
  2. Strategic Planning: Trustees play a crucial role in developing the direction, strategy, and planning for VASE, this will include defining the Vision, Mission and Values of the new organisation;
  3. Resource Management: In line with the aims set out in the governing document, Trustees will ensure that VASE has the structure and resources for its work. This includes managing financial resources and personnel;
  4. Regular attendance and participation in Board Meetings (scheduled and agreed in advance) and any relevant sub-committees;
  5. Representing VASE and the interests of the community, voluntary, faith and social enterprise sector locally. This could be through representation and support of staff at meetings with funders and other key stakeholders.  

What skills do I need?

  • Ideally you will have a passion for good causes, charities, volunteering and East Surrey;
  • Have an interest and/or experience in one or more of the following community, voluntary, faith or social enterprise sectors;
  • Have a good strategic, business acumen;
  • A commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in service delivery and the workplace;
  • Be numerate or understand good financial management;
  • Have some experience or insight into people management;
  • Be a clear and good strong communicator;
  • A commitment to ongoing personal and professional development;
  • Sufficient time to devote to executing your duties as a Trustee;
  • Being prepared to lead/be a member of sub-committee(s) tasked with meeting agreed terms of reference.

Availability Details

This will be very much a hands-on role, requiring in the first six months at least 1-2 hours per week of activity and engagement. Thereafter possibly around 4-6 hours a month. Mix of in-person and online meetings. Term: Initial 3-year appointment.
