Remap is a UK charity with 65+ local branches, across the country. We design and build devices for disabled people. Our skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests each year to design and make customised equipment free of charge to end users. The charity reimburses the cost of materials and travel. Volunteers give their time for free.

The successful candidate will not be expected to take up the role immediately upon joining Surrey Remap. To become familiar with operating procedures and understand the nature of the projects, the duties of a Volunteer Engineer will be carried on for an initial 6 months before formally moving to the post.

As the Surrey Vice Chair, you will be available to stand in for the Chair at branch meetings, be confident leading and chairing a meeting and undertake other duties as may be delegated by the Chair. It is therefore expected that you will have had earlier supervisory or management responsibility in an engineering or technical environment.

What skills do I need?

Assist the Chair as circumstances require, typically in the following areas:

  • Recruitment selection interviews.
  • Induction and supervision for new members on their first and possibly later more complex cases.
  • Technically support other panel members where necessary.
  • Continue to undertake projects as would be carried out by a Volunteer Engineer.
  • Attend bi-monthly branch meetings, normally via Zoom conference call.
  • Ensure safety procedures are carried out in accordance with Remap guidelines.

Key Attributes

  • Management, communication, organisation, and motivation skills
  • Access to a computer, and the ability to work from home.
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office, the internet, and email.
  • Must be 18+ and go through DBS clearance procedure arranged by Central Office.
