We are looking for volunteers to sing with us at our weekly prison sessions at HMP High Down every Wednesday morning, and/ or HMP Downview across the road every Wednesday afternoon.

You will be singing with our team of exceptional musicians, and the prisoners every week throughout the year.

Prior to your first visit, you will have the opportunity to attend a taster session with us at HMP Brixton to get a feel for our choir programmes. If you have decided you would like to commit to volunteering with us, you will need to complete prison security clearance before you attend your first formal session at East Sutton Park.

We know that attending Liberty Choir can have a significant impact on reducing reoffending rates. Our sessions are designed to help develop prisoners’ skills and self-confidence, open up the world of arts through singing and provide access to new social networks when they re-enter the wider community.

With your help, we can support even more prisoners through their sentence and help them get a second chance at life through the power of music and community.

Liberty Choir is a national charity bringing members of the public into prisons across the UK to sing with our choir of musicians, volunteers and prisoners every week. Our sessions are designed to build prisoners’ self-confidence and provide access to new social networks in the wider community.

What skills do I need?

The choir sings from lyric sheets as well as learning songs by heart and has a wide repertoire from swing and gospel to pop and classical.

You don't need musical skills or experience, but a love of music and singing is desirable.

Volunteers need an open mind and a non-judgemental approach to prisoners.

A supportive, positive and caring attitude is essential.
