The Therapy Garden (SH)
The Therapy Garden is a horticulture and education charity that uses gardening to generate positive change. We work with adults and teenagers with learning difficulties, physical disabilities and mental health challenges and offer school-age teenagers interventional education opportunities.
Based in the village of Normandy, Surrey, the charity was established in 1998 by a local resident, with the aim of using the healing power of horticulture to connect with vulnerable members of our community.
· To carry out seasonal garden maintenance tasks as instructed by Garden Manager or Horticulture Team. Tasks may include pruning, weeding and tidying areas of the garden and will often include tasks that our clients and students are unable to do.
· To carry out heavier garden maintenance tasks such as mowing, strimming and hedge cutting. This will only apply to volunteers that have had appropriate training and feel confident operating machinery. These tasks should only be attempted with the Garden Manager’s authorisation.
· To work independently in an allocated area of the garden i.e. new land and take responsibility for this area – report progress back to Horticulture Team.
