Surrey Care Trust (VSNS)
Surrey Care Trust provides learning, training and support to young people and adults to help them improve their chances in life. We enable people to overcome the disadvantages of low skills, poor educational achievement, setback in life such as illness, addiction, family breakdown and unemployment which can also leave people facing hardship and needing to learn new skills and rebuild confidence.
We have more than 200 volunteers and are looking for a volunteer to help develop commercial opportunities for our two swing bridge community boats.
Our specially adapted 140ft broadbeam boats enables people of all abilities to enjoy trips along the River Wey. Swing bridge 2 is specifically adapted for carrying out environmental work on the Rivers Wey and Thames and the Basingstoke Canal.
With extremely limited financial resources we offer "paid for" trips to care home residents and charities and this provides training for people alongside. We have many repeat customers but there is scope for expansion.
These two area focus but we have the ambition to develop new offerings which have been defined but not developed. All revenue generated by commercial boat trips is reinvested into the maintenance of the boats and to helping disadvantage people turn their lives around through training, mentoring and education.
Starting 2015 we wish to develop the income streams from various activities on the boats which in turn will enable us to increase the number of people the Trust can help to improve their lives - that's where you can help.
