We are looking for volunteers to join our team as our opening hours extend due to demand.  The role involves all aspects of food and drink preparation, serving customers, clearing away and washing up.  The successful candidate will be encouraged to become involved with all aspects of the running of our Pay As You Feel community café.

Full training will be provided and you will appreciate the outreach aspects of the coffee shop and the community we serve as well as learning basic barista skills and food preparation requirements.  The opportunity to achieve your Level 3 Food Hygiene and Food Handling certificates is available after a probationary period.

The successful candidates will  be committed to maintaining our high standards of food hygiene and customer service, and will have a polite and courteous manner.  Good levels of communication within the team, to ensure the smooth operation of each day is essential.  Experience in catering is desired but not necessary, a desire to provide an excellent customer experience and be a valued team member will be preferable to relevant experience.


What skills do I need?

We are part of and based within an Anglican Parish church and whilst being an active Christian is not essential a sympathetic attitude to our faith is.

Volunteer responsibilities include:

  •  welcoming customers as they arrive
  • providing customers with menu details and answering their questions
  • talking food and drink orders paying attention to customer preference
  • making drinks and preparing food orders and delivering to tables
  • clearing tables and replenishing sugar and condiments
  • washing up and replenishing stocks of clean crockery/cutlery etc
  • replenishing displays
  • day to day cleaning
  • receiving and processing payments (cash and card)
  • working as part of a small team

There are also opportunities to volunteer for smaller specific tasks such as front of house only roles or kitchen duties only roles.  We aim to meet the individual needs and preferences of our volunteers where possible.

Days and hours currently needing to be filled as follows:

Tuesday - 2pm to 5pm x 2 shifts available

Wednesday 8.30am to 2pm x 1 shift available

Thursday 2pm - 5am x 2 shifts available

Friday 8.30am - 3pm x 1 shift or split shifts of 1 x 8.30am-11.30 and 1 x 11am to 3pm
