We are Tools for Self Reliance (Sutton Volunteer Group), the local group of Tools for Self Reliance, a national (charity) organisation that sends tools and sewing machines to central Africa to provide people with a sustainable occupation.

Our group collects and refurbishes them before sending them to our headquarters near Southampton. We are looking for someone to collect tools, sewing machines and haberdashery in roughly the Leatherhead and Dorking area, from people who get in touch with us offering to donate.

We would let you have their details for you to follow up in your own time. Once you have a sufficient number of items collected, you need to deliver them to our workshop in Carshalton on either a Tuesday or Thursday between 10 and 2pm

What skills do I need?

Essential to have a car and be willing to collect from donors.

A sympathetic attitude with donors, who are often elderly and , for instance, want to donate items after a spouse has died.

Strong enough to lift and carry sewing machines and tools, which are often heavy.
