Epsom and St Helier Hospital Volunteer

Here at Epsom and St Helier we have a variety of volunteering roles within our trust the majority of which are patient facing. The value that volunteers bring to our trust is immeasurable, and the difference they can make to the patients experience is invaluable.

The range of volunteering roles and their individual requirements is as follows:

Ward - This role is a bit of everything, helping at mealtimes, chatting and reading etc. but also helping the ward staff by keeping stock cupboards tidy, looking for patients lost property, helping HCA’s to re-make beds, connecting patients to their families and friends via Virtual Visits, checking Audiology box, ensuring new patients have a property form completed, and attending to buzzers.

Wayfinding -   Helping Patients and Visitors navigate their way around our hospital site, escorting them when necessary.

Welcome desk – Helping patients who do not have appointment letters to find out where their appointment is by telephoning the various reception desks, calling for Porters, telephoning Taxi’s and cleaning services

Emergency Department – Supporting patients that are on their own, making drinks for relatives and patients when appropriate, re-stocking gloves, wipes etc., ensure patients have all of their property when they leave the department

Dementia Support – Trained by Dementia Specialist to support the patients wellbeing whilst they are receiving treatment in our Hospitals

What skills do I need?

We welcome all enthusiastic volunteers who would like to support our patients, visitors and carers and become an integral part of the patients experience.
