We are a small, friendly, hardworking, independent team at Surrey County Council looking for volunteers to sit on admission appeal panels for a variety of schools, working closely with the Team for the benefit of parents, children, the Local Authority, Schools and Governing Bodies.

To ensure parents and schools feel that they have had a fair and independent hearing and been given every opportunity to put their case and that the points they have made have been taken seriously and carefully considered.

To make reasoned decisions based on written and oral information in line with the relevant legislation and statutory guidance.

Council offices in Weybridge, Woking, Leatherhead and Reigate or venues arranged by schools around Surrey and we are keen to recruit volunteers from all areas of Surrey. 

Travel costs (petrol or train) will be reimbursed.

Availability Details

Appeals are heard during the day, Monday to Friday term time only. Hearings start about 9.30am and you will hear between 1-8 appeals per day. Hearings usually finish by 5pm (if a full day) but can over run. Hearings can be single day hearings or multi day. There is no minimum amount of commitment required as it is accepted this will vary person to person but some commitment during the busy period from late April to late July each year is expected.
