Trainee Adviser

Are you looking for a volunteer role where you can use your skills and experience, develop your knowledge and help others to solve the problems they face? Citizens Advice provides free, impartial, confidential and independent advice to people, whoever they are and whatever their problem. We are looking for new Advisors to join our team and train to provide a comprehensive advice service.

You will learn to assess people’s problems using sensitive listening and questioning skills; identify key information, including time limits, key dates and any requirements for urgent action; establish what the client wants; identify and summarise the essence of the problem and provide information and agree the appropriate next steps.

What skills do I need?

We don’t look for particular experience or qualifications but what you do need are excellent communication skills, an interest in problem solving, the ability to quickly sift through information and extract what is relevant and an open, approachable manner. Our service is open to everyone so respect for views, values and cultures that may be different to your own is important. You also need to be familiar with using a computer and have good basic keyboard skills.
