Mid Surrey Community Fridges (CSVA)
Mid Surrey Community Fridges are looking for Warehouse volunteers to help them in the fight against food waste.
Their aim is to stop food waste and to redistribute the excess food from supermarkets, restaurants, cafes and suppliers to residents so the food is not wasted.
Volunteers will be key to ensuring that the warehouse is operated in a safe and efficient manner, keeping stock rotated so that we can all achieve our aim of reducing food waste.
Core Responsibilities:
Follow the Mid Surrey Community Fridge guidelines, procedures and policies
Maintain a stock rotation plan
Packing orders for transportation to hubs/fridges as per delivery list
Receive, stack and record deliveries.
Deliver to local fridges/hubs.
Collect from local suppliers if required.
Happy to work as part of an effective team & working on your own.
Maintain appropriate working relations with the other members of the volunteer team, premises owners, staff and suppliers.
Clean and sweep the warehouse as required.
Ensure Fridges and freezers are clean and record Fridge and freezer temps daily in log book.
Clean fridges once a week, defrost and clean freezers quarterly or as required.
Attend and complete any training sessions relevant to the role.
Volunteers need to develop a great relationship with each other, our customers, premises owners and suppliers.
They will spend a significant part of their time moving, picking and transporting stock, both within the warehouse and between the vehicles and fridge sites. Therefore they must be physically fit and able to lift and move crates of food using sack barrows or similar devices. Food is stored on racking in the warehouse so the volunteer will be expected to stack this racking adhering to manual handling and health and safety guidance.
Arrangements often change so the volunteer needs to be adaptable.
