We are looking for a volunteer Curator of Artefacts to work with the Museum’s extensive collection of objects. The role is varies, involving overseeing the cataloguing and care of the Museum’s collections, and preparation of items for display in permanent and temporary exhibitions. The curator would lead a team of enthusiastic volunteers who are responsible for knowing where all items are, checking their condition, receiving in new items and accessioning and storying them, and ensuring that environmental conditions are suitable (that pests are controlled and temperature, light and humidity are suitable and that appropriate storage and handling standards are reached.) This is an opportunity to work with a team of enthusiastic people who are committed to looking after the museum’s objects and making them available for display.

What skills do I need?

The ideal candidate will have some experience or knowledge of museum standards of collections documentation and collections care. (We are an accredited Museum.) This need not be extensive as the Museum has appropriate procedures that can be followed and developed. The candidate needs to be computer literate and able to use basic Excel and online cataloguing systems (instruction can be given). It is essential that the curator be organised and careful as keeping records is a key part of the role.
