About the Library of Things

The Library of Things (LoT) is a community-led initiative that allows people to borrow useful items instead of buying them—helping to reduce waste, promote sustainability, and make everyday life more affordable. This exciting project is run entirely by volunteers and relies on the support of the local community.

We are looking for a Treasurer (Finance Volunteer) to oversee the financial management of the Library of Things. If you have a keen eye for numbers and want to use your skills to support a meaningful community initiative, this role is perfect for you!

Role Overview

As Treasurer, you will be responsible for managing the finances of the Library of Things, ensuring that donations are recorded, expenses are tracked, and our small budget is managed efficiently. You will play a key role in ensuring financial transparency, keeping the team informed of the financial position, and helping to make decisions that keep the project sustainable.

This is an opportunity to make a tangible impact, helping to shape the financial future of a growing community project. No formal qualifications are required, just enthusiasm, good organisational skills, and a basic understanding of finance.

Key Responsibilities

· Oversee financial transactions, including recording voluntary donations and expenses.

· Maintain accurate financial records to ensure transparency and accountability.

· Prepare basic financial updates for the Trustees and volunteer team.

· Help manage a small operational budget, ensuring funds are used effectively.

· Advise on financial planning, helping to keep the Library of Things sustainable.

· Ensure simple financial procedures are in place and followed.

· Support grant applications or fundraising initiatives, if needed.

What’s in it for You?

· Make a meaningful impact by helping a community-led initiative thrive.

· Use your finance skills for a good cause—great for professional development or personal fulfilment.

· Be part of a passionate and welcoming team, working towards sustainability and community sharing.

· Gain experience in charity finance and grassroots community projects.

What skills do I need?

Skills & Experience (Desirable but Not Essential)

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, and no formal finance qualifications are required. However, the following skills would be helpful:

· Basic bookkeeping or financial management experience (personal or professional).

· Strong attention to detail and good organisational skills.

· Ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance volunteers.

· Enthusiasm for sustainability and community-led projects.

· Experience with spreadsheets or simple accounting tools (e.g., Excel, QuickBooks, or similar) is helpful but not essential.

If you enjoy working with numbers and want to make a real difference, we’d love to hear from you
