What is a Home Support Volunteer?
When cancer, or any life-threatening illness is diagnosed, a Brigitte Trust volunteer offers emotional support and practical help at home. You will visit the same client each week and give your time to listen, as well as practical tasks like transport and shopping trips… or even a chance to go out for a drive and a cup of tea together.
Offering this time to listen can be the greatest support of all at a time of anxiety and change.

What’s in it for you?
As a Brigitte Trust volunteer you will join a friendly and hugely supportive charity, build skills and confidence and receive training and support every step of the way. Our volunteers have said that above all they feel valued and supported, have made new friends and have used the skills learned at The Brigitte Trust in many aspects of their own lives.

What’s involved?
Volunteers are encouraged to attend our popular “taster sessions” to learn more about our charity without obligation .  If you feel our work is right for you, an informal interview will follow before the free 6-session training course, which covers every aspect of the volunteer role.  We ask our volunteers to give 3 hours face to face with our clients each week at a fixed day of their choice.

This role will suit people who…
Have empathy, patience and tolerance of the needs of others and a non-judgemental approach plus willingness to learn and grow. No nursing or medical background is necessary and male and female volunteers of all ages are warmly welcomed.
