Circles South East
Volunteers are needed for this established child protection project with Circles South East. The project works closely with, and is supported by, both the Police and Probation Service. Volunteers work as a team with a small group of other volunteers.
Together they support and monitor one registered sexual offender (Core Member) living in the local community, who has voluntarily chosen to be part of the project. Groups meet on a weekly basis to assist the Core Member with issues such as relapse prevention, confidence building, community integration and employment.
Part of the role involves the group monitoring the Core Member's attitudes and beliefs and feeding back any areas of concern to their Co-coordinator, who in turn may feed back concerns to the Police and Probation Service. Volunteers are responsible for taking minutes of meetings on a rota basis, and play an important role in the ongoing risk assessment and management of the individual they support.
The group maintains regular communication with the Circles co-ordinator, and full training and supervision is included.
Due to the nature of the work all volunteers must be over 21 years of age, be resident in the local area all year round and be able to commit for a minimum of 18 months.
Opportunities are available across the whole of Surrey. Circles are set up according to need in local communities. Due to the sensitive nature of the work we are unable to disclose any details regarding the location of the meetings to the general public. However, if you are interested in learning more about the project but have some travel concerns then please feel free to contact us and we can discuss current vacancies.
No specific experience is required as full training will be provided. We do ask, however, that our volunteers are committed, reliable individuals with good organisational and communication skills and a great deal of common sense.
Volunteers need to have the ability to combine an empathetic approach whilst maintaining firm boundaries.
