The new repair café will give local people an opportunity to bring faulty or broken domestic items for free repair. It will meet one morning a month in Camberley town centre.   Repair cafés are quite common, and they are run entirely by volunteers. The Camberley café has almost enough volunteers to open but a few more are needed.

Volunteers are needed in a number of roles:  Management, welcoming and repairers.  If you are interested in finding out more about the project just get in touch and we can discuss to slot you in where you would be most suitable.

What skills do I need?

Three different 'skills' are needed, so three different sorts of people will be involved.

Firstly, volunteers who can meet and greet members of the public as they enter the café. This involves recording items brought into the café so progress can be tracked.

Secondly, a management group is necessary to ensure the proper operation of the café. A bank account is necessary to record donations and expenses. Insurance for the café and its volunteers has to be maintained. Arrangements with the venue have to be formalised.

Finally, there are the essential repairers themselves. No requirement to be professionally-qualified, but they do need to be suitably competent. A range of repairers to tackle a range of repairs is desirable, so all skills are welcomed.
