Victoria Almshouses is a registered charity whose objective is to provide accommodation for elderly, retired residents of the Redhill & Reigate borough who are able to lead an independent life but have an acute housing need and inadequate financial resources to house themselves.

The Charity is seeking to strengthen its Board of Governors (Trustees) supplementing the existing range of skills and experience

Ideally the charity is seeking candidates with one or more of the following skills: Building Surveying, Finance, Social Care, Health Care and Statutory Compliance.

The Board has two principal Committees; Welfare and Fabric & Finance.

Members of the Welfare Committee would keep in touch with residents – at present mainly by phone, this is shared amongst Trustees.

The Fabric and Finance Committee has on ongoing programme of maintenance and repair involving oversight of contractors.  Currently there are two major refurbishments in hand and a planned resident’s room in the early stages.

A manager who lives on site at Reigate is responsible for day to day welfare of residents and the 35 properties across two sites.

New Trustees would shadow an existing trustee depending on their skill set/ experience.

What skills do I need?

Building Surveying - supporting an existing Chartered Surveyor Trustee ensuring that properties are kept in good order.  Preparing Specifications of works, seeking and evaluating tenders and supervision of works.

Finance - Providing support as required for the Hon Treasurer.

Social Care - Joining the Welfare Committee and providing pastoral care as required for residents.

Health Care - Joining the Welfare Committee and working alongside the Committee Chair to provide pastoral support to residents

Compliance - Experience of Health & Safety and statutory compliance to ensure the charity is in line with latest legislation.
